The SLGO enjoyed excellent visibility at the Ocean'08 international conference held in Quebec City, September 15-18, 2008. The event organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) and the Marine Technology Society (MTS) explored the theme "Oceans, Poles and Climate: Technological Challenges".
A special theme session, organized by Technopole Maritime du Québec (TMQ), focused on "Challenges in Managing the St. Lawrence". During this session, chaired by Dr Ariane Plourde, DFO regional director of sciences, two conferences were presented by Joanne Hamel, SLGO, and Martin Lapointe, CIDCO. They respectively presented the St. Lawrence Global Observatory and an overview of technological challenges in the context of the observation of the St. Lawrence ecosystem. The session helped participants understand the Observatory concept and its benefits and was a good opportunity for exchanges and discussions.
SLGO also had a booth in the Canadian Pavilion where visitors from around the world were able to go online and visit SLGO.ca.
